AIDWA, Delhi held a protest against increasing incidents of sex crimes on girls in "shelter homes". Recent happenings in Muzaffarpur and Deoria are indeed horrifying.

 AIDWA, Delhi held a protest against  increasing incidents of sex crimes on girls in "shelter homes". Recent happenings in Muzaffarpur and Deoria are indeed horrifying.

Scores of women marched from VPHouse right up to the entrance of Parliament House. Outraged women shouted slogans asking for resignations of Nitish and Yogi governments who have let loose their cronies and dare not bring them to justice. They also demanded " Modi sarkar gaddi chhodo" on the eve of of Aug 9 - Quit India Day because Modi"s Beti Bachao slogan has been a mere "jumla".

Such crimes are particularly heinous because these are committed with the aid of those very institutions which are ironically "shelter" homes for girls. It is the impunity that the criminal rapists enjoy that ensures that violating girls in the name of sheltering them goes on unabated.

The women were arrested and taken to Mandir Marg police station where Brinda Karat, patron of AIDWA and ex-MP visited them and commended their timely action.

The women demanded:
1.Fast-track trial of the Muzaffarpur and Deoria cases.
2. Monitoring of the funtioning of shelter homes by SDMs.
3.Time-bound social audit of all shelter homes in the country
4. Annulment of licences of all defaulting institutions.
5. Rehabilitation of the rescued children including counseling and formal education
